In mid-December 2013, oDesk and Elance announced an impending merger that they expect to finalize by Q1 2014, subject to fulfillment of certain closing regulatory review and approval conditions.
According to the joint statement issued by both companies, some things are bound to change while others remain the same. For example, both oDesk and Elance will operate separately and as usual, even after completion of the merger. oDesk freelancers and employers will continue to work on oDesk, and Elance freelancers and employers will continue to work on Elance.
Main changes to be brought about by the oDesk Elance Merger:
We can however expect several changes after the merger is finalized. A few are as described below:
- Gary Swart – oDesk CEO will step aside and Fabio Rosati, Elance’s CEO will take over as CEO of the merged company. Gary will then take on a new role as Strategic Advisor of the new company.
- Thomas Layton – oDesk executive chairman will continue in his current role in the combined company.
- The new company post-merger will have a new name – to be announced after the deal closes.
